What the hell is this?
This is an overall dump of my thoughts during my first time viewing of From's third episode, Choosing Day.
And now for my notes.
Well, I certainly don't like that it's called "Choosing Day." It's giving "The Lottery."
I'm sorry, if you let those things kill him because he wasn't home when his wife and daughter were murdered, you are a murderer. Period. No wiggle room.
Oh, okay, so the choosing is just the newcomers choosing where they'd rather live: the town, or the commune.
lmao, this guy is having a break from reality. He thinks this is an ARG???
So if someone does something that "leads to the death of another resident," they stick them in the box. Except they've never actually done it to anyone before. Also except the guy they're going to kill didn't do anything to cause someone else to die. You could argue he failed to do something to prevent a death, but he didn't do anything to cause someone to die. If anything, the owner of the bar who didn't wake his ass up and send him home before dark was the one who "got them killed," if we're assigning blame to actions. Because the guy himself was clearly already verging on incapacitated, and the actual person who made a mistake and got someone other than herself killed was the fucking little girl!
Regardless: if I went to town and was told that if I agree to live in the town, I'm responsible for never making a mistake on pain of being trapped in a metal box so monsters can torture me to death, I'M NOT JOINING YOUR TOWN, WHAT THE FUCK? Like, is that what the commune is? Just a collection of people who object to the fucking box? I'd better see something evil from this commune sometime soon because right now it looks like there's a very clear right answer and wrong answer to this silly choice...
Oh, my god. They're giving the new people the blood-soaked house of the last people? What the absolute fuck? And this man!? "If they'd followed the rules, they'd still be alive right now." Go fuck yourself, newbie, who the fuck are you? I hate this man!
They're treating this like an execution for a crime. It's not. They're going to torture him to death after a mistake that cost him his family's lives. Meanwhile, the deputy tells his mom openly that it wouldn't have mattered if she'd been there when the grandfather died because that would've just meant she died, too, and YET. We're blaming this man. Because he didn't get home in time to... Lemme check my notes on this one. Die with his dumbass child who can't keep a window closed and his dumbass wife who got scared and didn't grab her kid before the little brat opened the window? So he gets tortured to death as punishment? But it's okay because the sheriff maybe sorta kinda feels bad about it? Lord.
Where are they getting the electricity and food from?
Oh, good. Let's have the absolutely insufferable child hang out with the incredibly creepy man. "I'm checking to see if the trees moved." But this creepy guy is funny to me because he's clearly just here to Twin Peaks it up. Everyone else wants to do "Lost but it's a car crash in the woods," but he wants to do "Twin Peaks but you can't leave."
Um, so what the fuck is in that basement? Is that one of the monsters? A dying person? A hallucination?
"Let's say you absolve Frank of all his crimes." WHAT FUCKING CRIMES. Meanwhile it's THE PRIEST who's making sure that the sheriff goes through with torturing an innocent man to death. I hate these fucking people. Evil! What is wrong with you freaks!?
Can the monsters open up the box? Is there supposed to be a chance that the monsters can't get in, or are we all on the same page with the idea that they can open the box up, period.
Of course I'd stay with the fucking colony. Are you fucking freaks insane? And the decision can't be "final" because two of the people "deciding" today won't get to decide at all! They're children. The sheriff and the priest are evil. (Just like in real life!)
"She can't make that decision, she's underage." Go fuck yourself! Of course she chose the colony house. The town is torturing someone to death tonight!? And then the sheriff is going to scream at the woman standing up for the teenage girl's right to choose to "shut the fuck up!" Fucking evil.
But anyway now that the teenager is at the colony for her first night without her parents, I guess it's time to find out if there's any weird pervy stuff happening. Cause if there's nothing rapey going on... I can't fathom why anyone would want to live in town? Other than just wanting your own house—but why would you want to live in someone else's murder scene?
Whispers and giggles and a whole horde of monsters, and this guy just puts up his dukes.
Oh, they just burst through the metal sides of the box. Okay, well, at least the anticipation didn't linger?
