[First Time Watching] From 1x2 - The Way Things Are Now

What the hell is this?

This is an overall dump of my thoughts during my first time viewing of From's second episode, The Way Things Are Now

And now for my notes.

So... y'all haven't told this man what to be afraid of or what's going on, and you're expecting him to just go along with it with zero information? They knock politely and ask to come in, and you're expecting him to refuse to let them in with no info?

Meanwhile these other fucks are running around in the dark and a rainstorm. All because they tried to crash the RV, the morons. I guess they were hoping to "save" them by making sure they didn't get stranded in the forest.

But anyway... The commune people are acting like the people outside might try to pass as survivors to get in. (They bother restraining newbies.) Interesting, though, that the monsters were literally just feet away and not attacking even when the survivors were trapped on the porch outside the manor house. They didn't try to get in, they didn't try to blend into the group, didn't even attack the people outside. Just stood there kinda trying to lure the youngest one into approaching them. (But I don't know this show well enough to guess whether it's "rule of scary" bullshit or if I should be brainstorming theories...)

Now, after having seen both the sheriff and the lady running the commune... I'd rather hang out with the hippies. Since the fandom seems to like the sheriff (and he's the big star of the show), I assume the commune will be revealed to have some nefarious side sooner or later, but for right now... I finally found the way you get me to join a cult?

Oh, no, definitely not. Why is this random man alone with this tied-up teenage girl? Isn't anyone supervising? He's not even capable of seeing that she's scared to death, fuck. Aw, Christ, and then the girl is like "hey my boyfriend would love to draw you because you're beautiful." Nah, nah. Miss me with that shit.

"It's harder for them to trick you if you can't see them." Okay, so that explains why children are more susceptible to opening the windows and shit; there's a compulsion element. But is there also an invitation element? Kinda vampy?

Calling it now: this girl is going to join the commune, that's going to be a point of contention in the family.

Oh, ew, not the giggling.

Wait, and the talisman only works so long as it doesn't fall? That's... an interesting quirk of the lore. I just really hope this is a coherent story...

I'm really not sure why everyone's so shitty toward the commune right now? It really doesn't seem like they've done anything wrong. (But also, I just now figured out why they put the guy with dementia in the basement: if kids are easier to compel, then I can only imagine how easily-compelled someone with dementia must be... They're honestly being quite kind taking such care to keep him alive in spite of the threat he poses. I'd expect a community like this to eventually begin practicing compassionate euthanasia for things as severe as dementia...)

I really, really hate this kid lmao.

"Everyone sees the tree. And all those fucking crows."

Well, an engineer might at least be useful. Except I imagine we can only really build shit from wood... But what if we start cutting down the forest in, like, a straight line? Could we find a way out eventually, maybe?

Now, why is there always a kid or a crazy person making crappy prophetic drawings? Why is that easier to believe than Doyle-style visions?

Good jump scare with the nurse! But now the guy who they gave zero information has just taken down the talisman, so... maybe y'all should've given him some goddamn information!? Like, he's not even disbelieving you, you're just not telling him anything! (Wait, shit, that was a fucking lame jump scare/fake-out. Hiss! Boo!)

See, this is why I was talking about compassionate euthanasia for the old guy. Could've gone out on morphine, but instead he gets ripped to shreds. :((

Oh, interesting to compare it to a chess match: there's only so many places you can go (only so many ways you can move around the board). Eventually, you're in checkmate and there's nothing you can do. (Something about how they only walk and never run.)

Now who's that creepy little fuck that nobody else can see but the little boy? It kinda even looked like him...

But the big question: do I want to watch any more tonight?
